According to the Met Office, the UK has experienced the driest first half of any year since 1929. In fact, it is has been revealed that the average rainfall from January to June stood at 356.8mm, which makes it the second driest period for a century. The driest first half of a year was reportedly experienced in 1929 when 275.7mm of rain was recorded.
It is believed that a lack of Atlantic weather systems has caused the drier conditions, as these weather systems usually cross the UK bringing bands of rain.
The Met Office has pointed out that the drier conditions have led to ‘pressure on water resources in some areas’.
Communications Director at Water UK, Barrie Clarke, the water industry representative, commented: "These figures paint a graphic picture of why reservoir levels in the west are so low by comparison with normal years. During such a dry spell it makes sense to use water wisely wherever you live."

Homeowners who have home improvements to do, might be thinking about taking advantage of the dry weather to get structural building work completed. Those searching for finance to facilitate building work could contemplate a secured loan for
home improvements. A secured loan could help fund both structural building work, and internal redevelopment of properties in need of upgrading.
