According to Sainsbury’s Car Insurance, 23 percent of male motorists would set off on a journey amid severe weather conditions despite advice not to.
In contrast, just 13 percent of women would do so. Of all the motorists surveyed, it was discovered that one in ten of those who have driven in such conditions – irrespective of warnings not to – have been involved in an accident as a result.
Furthermore, research has shown that men take more risks than women when it comes to driving in the winter. In fact, it was found that 6 percent of the male motorists surveyed had failed to wear a seatbelt whilst driving in wintry conditions. This is equivalent to 980,000 men, which is reportedly more than three times the number of women who would act in the same way.
However, findings show a similarity in the number of men and women who embark upon trips in the car without first ensuring that their front and rear windscreens are completely clear. The figures stand at 28 percent and 26 percent respectively.
Sainsbury's Car Insurance Manager, Ben Tyte, commented: "With much of the UK continuing to experience severe winter weather our findings are a real worry. Motorists should at the very least be making sure that their windscreens are fully cleared for their own safety and that of other road users. The fact that some people are still driving without a seatbelt is simply staggering, but also illegal."
"Men may well see braving snowy roads as a challenge given they often regard themselves as more confident drivers, but confidence can soon be knocked and our advice is to simply not take the risk. We would encourage all motorists to take adequate precautions if they have to drive in snowy or icy conditions."

Homeowners who find themselves stuck at home during severe weather conditions, wishing that their house was a little warmer and cosier, could consider taking out a secured loan to facilitate any projects required to insulate their properties. One of many finance options available, a secured loan for
home improvements could allow the borrower to embark upon an array of projects, from redecoration and refurbishment to the installation of a new and improved central heating system. That chilly house could be transformed with a secured loan for home improvements.
