What do I need to apply?

Your Loan Officer will be able to give you a general idea of what documents we need from you when they first speak to you. The best time to assess what supporting information we need for your application is when we have your loan application pack back in. There are some items that are always needed so to keep things simple we’ve provided a list of the most commonly asked for documents.

If you are employed:

  • Payslip – We require your most recent payslip if you are paid monthly or your two most recent payslips if you are paid weekly. If you are paid weekly we need the two payslips to be consecutive. We require payslips for all applicants whose income has been included in our affordability calculation. If your income is predominantly made up of bonus we will also need your P60.
  • Job Reference – Occasionally if your payslip is manually produced or we need further clarification of something like bonus, a job reference may be required. This is a simple form, faxed or posted to your employers, asking for a few details of your employment such as your pay, length of service and work address. Your employer can fax this back to us to make it nice and straightforward and we’ll call to let the person who filled it in for us to let them know it’s been received safely.
  • Schedule for Use of Funds – If you are receiving more than £25,000 of your loan as a personal cheque (consolidation and other circumstances where the cheques are made out to a third party are proof for use of funds) then we will require what’s known as a schedule. You will be provided with a letter from Nemo in your application pack and you just need to add in what you intend to use the money for e.g. new bathroom, fixtures and fittings or building costs, parts and labour for a new conservatory etc. The letter just needs to be signed by all applicants and returned to your Loan Officer.
  • Proof of Residence – We need three years proof of residency. If you are currently and have been on the voters roll then Nemo can actually use that as your proof of residency. If you aren’t on the voter’s roll or don’t have a record of all three of the previous years then we will need alternative proof. This proof can be any of the following dated for the year in question: Utility bills, Council Tax Demands, Water Rates or Inland Revenue. For example if we have voter’s roll for the current year and previous year we would need correspondence dated from three years ago.
  • Proof of Identity – In the majority of cases we require proof of identity outside of what is provided from credit search results. If this is the case your Loan Officer will advise you on what we need. The most common items we can use are passports and driving licenses.

If you are Self-Employed:

  • If either applicant is self-employed then self-employed criteria will apply.
  • If you are a self-employed taxi driver then there are a few bits of extra information that we will need from you.
    1. A copy of your car insurance documents to prove that you both own and drive the car you use as a taxi. This is because we can only consider owner/driver taxi drivers.
    2. Proof of registration from the local authority.
  • Statement of Affordability – This form is for you to record your annual salary as a self-employed individual. You need to sign and date the form and then return it to your Loan Officer. This form needs to be supported by one of two additional documents.
    • Accountants Reference
These are only acceptable from a practising accountant with a recognised qualification or a tax practitioner who is your tax agent for submission to the Inland Revenue. or
    • Original Inland Revenue Self Employed Self Assessment submission
  • Proof of 2 years of Self-Employment
One of Nemo’s criteria is that any self-employed applicants need to have been so for a minimum of 2 years. There are two ways you can demonstrate this.
    • Accountants Letter
This letter will need to mention that your accountant currently acts for you, state the name and nature of your business and how long it’s been established as well as confirming that your business is still trading at the time of writing. or
    • Suppliers Invoices
We require an invoice to you from a supplier dated from at least 2 years ago and another from within the last three months.
