Data Protection

We have stated below how Nemo proposes to use and disclose your information in order that you fully understand this before providing your personal details to Nemo Personal Finance Limited.

Once you choose to provide us personally identifiable information (any information by which you can be identified), you can be assured that it will only be used to support your customer relationship with Nemo Personal Finance.

Nemo Personal Finance uses your information to better understand your needs and provide you with better service. Specifically, we use your information to communicate with you and to update you on service and benefits.

At Nemo Personal Finance we arrange all loans and rates according to your personal circumstances. Once you submit a loan application to us:

  • We will contact credit reference agencies to ask about you. They will then add details of your application and our search to their records, and any other organisations that check on you in the future will know you applied to us.
  • We may get in touch with your employer/s or accountant to make sure you've given us accurate information.
  • We can share your information with other organisations, who may use it to make decisions about credit (and credit-related products such as insurance) applications which you or your family make in the future. See below for further details.
  • We'll also check your information with fraud prevention agencies and, if it turns out to be false or unreliable, we may record this.
  • Your record could be used in the future to help trace debtors, recover debt and prevent fraud or money-laundering.
  • We, together with the credit reference agencies and the fraud prevention agencies, will also use the records for training, and for analysing statistics about credit, insurance and fraud.
  • The fraud prevention agencies will also share your records with other organisations to help them make decisions about credit applications and insurance proposals and claims for you and your family, including motor, household, credit, life and other insurance.
  • You have a legal right to receive a copy of your personal details held by the credit reference and control prevention agencies. If you would like those details, please call us on 029 2020 7309.

Information held about you and your account by the credit reference agencies may already be linked or "associated" to records relating to your partner or anyone that you may be financially "associated" with. Your ability to obtain credit will be influenced by the records held by the credit reference agency on you or any person associated with you in this way.

Another person’s records will be associated with yours by us when:

  1. You make a joint application
  2. You advise us of a financial association with another person
  3. If the credit reference agencies have existing linked or "associated" records

This "association" will link your records at the credit reference agencies and will be taken into account in all future applications by either or both of you. This shall continue until one of you applies to the credit reference agencies and is successful in filing a "disassociation".

You MUST therefore ensure when making a joint application or advising us of some other financial association that you are entitled to disclose information about your joint applicant and anyone referred to by you and authorise us to search, link or record information at credit reference agency/ies. You will be reminded of this obligation and details of how we use your personal data when you apply for a loan.

What should I do if I think I have received a scam or ‘phishing’ e mail?

If you think you have received a scam e mail, don’t click on any links or pictures and don’t open any attachments. Nemo will never send you an e mail asking you for personal information. Such e mails are referred to as ‘phishing’ e mails, and are named as such because fraudsters are attempting to ‘fish’ for your personal security details.

If you receive an e mail asking you to reply with your personal details please forward it to phishing@nemoloans.co.uk in order to help us combat online fraud. Nemo does not guarantee a response to every e mail but you can be assured we will investigate every report received.

How do I know that Nemo’s website is secure if I am submitting my personal information?

There are several pages on the Nemo website which ask you for personal information. You can make sure these pages are secure by clicking on the yellow pad lock icon which appears in the status bar. This locked padlock shows that Nemo uses encryption to protect the personal details that you enter. You can double click the lock to display Nemo’s Security Certificate. The ‘Issued to’ name should match www.nemo-loans.co.uk.

What should I do if I think I’m on a fake website?

Fraudsters may set up spoof websites which are made to look like the real thing to enable them to obtain your personal information. In order to avoid this type of scam, you should always type in website addresses carefully before entering any personal information.
