After a quiet and frosty start to 2009, the Met Office are now forecasting a mixture of windy, wintry weather for the coming weekend.
They say that Atlantic weather systems are set to bring gales to various parts of the UK and we’re also in for spells of heavy rain along with a mixture of snow showers, sleet and hail.
Last Saturday night, extremely stormy weather was expected, with winds reported at speeds of up to 70-80 m.p.h in western Britain, gales of up to 100 m.p.h were anticipated in the worst affected parts of Northwest Scotland.
Transport and power supplies were expected to be disrupted and it was anticipated that Northern Britain would wake to find a blanket of snow on Sunday morning. It is further anticipated that colder weather will continue through this coming week.
Bob Wilderspin, Chief Forecaster at the Met Office advises: "It is important during severe weather to check the latest forecast. The detail is clearly very important and this can change at short notice.

As Winter turns to Spring, homeowners may decide that they would like to carry out some home improvements, to protect against Winter of 2009 / 2010. One of many options to finance home improvements, a secured loan could be considered to fund large scale projects such as re roofing a property. Other projects that could be considered to protect against winter weather, and that could also be funded with a secured loan, include insulating loft space, redoing guttering to ensure that water is diverted away from the property efficiently, replacing broken garden fences and also repairing damaged garden walls. Some homeowners may even consider replacing windows and doors in order to achieve better insulation. Secured loans can usually be repaid over a term to suit the borrower from 5 to 25 years.
