According to new research conducted by Tesco Pet Insurance, pets are at the forefront of Brits’ minds as they plan their holidays.
In fact, it was found that a quarter of dog owners in the UK have intentionally decided upon a British holiday destination, as opposed to venturing further a field, so that their pets can accompany them.
It would seem that kennels are out of the question where 83 percent of dog owners are concerned, while 12 percent plan to take their dog on their next holiday. Last year, the Government issued 46,500 EU pet passports to British veterinary practices as a result of the UK’s Pet Travel Scheme (PETS). This allows pet owners to take their cats or dogs on their travels within the EU.
When planning such an expedition, pet owners must ensure that their cat or dog meets the following requirements: it must have blood tests at the vet; it should be treated against tapeworm and ticks; it must be fully vaccinated (specifically with regard to rabies); it must be micro-chipped; and it must have an up-to-date PETS passport. In addition, the pet owner should check the import requirements of their destination.
Gillian Lewis of Airpets commented: "It may seem a daunting prospect, with health checks and a flight but more than a million pets fly safely world-wide each year. Pets travel comfortably in the livestock hold of direct passenger flights in kennels large enough for them to lie, stand and turn around in. Pet owners can pick up their pets after clearing customs."
Head of Tesco Pet Insurance, Rachel Cutler, said: "As a nation of animal lovers, it is telling that a quarter of us organise our holidays around our pets. We've provided cover because our customers have told us they would like to share their holiday experience with their pets."

Homeowners with pets, who would like to increase the amount of living space available to them, could consider taking out a secured loan for
home improvement purposes. One of many finance options available, a secured loan could allow the borrower to extend their property or to add a conservatory to it. Alternatively, unruly gardens could be landscaped to provide an ideal outdoor area for the homeowner to relax in, and for cats or dogs to run around in. Where a suitable amount of land is possessed, horse-owners could even introduce stables to their grounds to avoid commuting to liveries.
