The Children’s Mutual recently reported that Dads are worth an additional £17,000 to families.
They are spending more time at home and are getting more involved in domestic chores as well as helping out more with looking after children.
Dads are also doing other tasks in and around the home like cooking, making toys, running kids about, managing the family finance and do it yourself. Children benefit the most from Dad’s help who have spending time with their children down as the number one activity. Dads spend around 4 hours 6 minutes per week doing this. Cooking takes up 3 hours 19 minutes, DIY 3 hours 11 minutes and organising family finance, 3 hours 9 minutes.
Two thirds of Dads were happy with the role they play, but did actually say that they would like to spend another 2 hours a day with their children. It is suggested that this could be done by letting the little ones join in with the activities they are responsible for.
David White, Chief Executive of The Children's Mutual, said: "Dads play such an important role within the home and in the lives of their children - our calculations show the additional monetary value that dads now have around the home, quite apart from the emotional value that they have, supporting their partner and children. It's great that looking after their children is so high on dad's agendas, but it's also really encouraging to see just how high up arranging the family finances are.”

Homeowner Dads who are thinking about making some home improvements, and who are looking for finance, could consider a secured loan. A secured loan is one of many options to fund
home improvements and could fund space creating projects for growing families such as extensions or conservatories. If creating a great get away for kids and all their toys is desired, a secured loan could also fund a loft conversion. Outside, Dads might consider making changes in the garden to create more space for fun and play.
