Comparison site Gocompare.com recently conducted a survey into ‘Brits abroad’ and their travel habits.
It has been found that the majority of Brits intend to take holidays abroad in order to escape the recession and bad weather. In fact, 76 percent were planning or considering a foreign holiday before the end of 2009.
Gocompare.com’s Brits Abroad Study surveyed 1,600 people and verified that 56 percent of people planned a trip abroad in the next 6 months and 20 percent contemplated a foreign holiday. 19 percent had decided not to have a holiday abroad.
For those who do get away, the majority said that they enjoy exploring beyond the place in which they stay, but almost a third stay within their hotel, participating in organised trips or visiting local museums and historical sites. 12 percent of people said that they prefer not to go beyond their resorts.
When it comes to food, 56 percent of ‘Brits Abroad’ would be keen to eat the local food as much as they possibly could and 42 percent would be happy to try it. Just 2 percent would only want to eat ‘English Style Food.’
If visiting a place which has differing customs and religions to the UK, just half of holidaymakers research these before they go away. A quarter say that they will find out more about culture and customs whilst there and one in ten find out more from the in flight magazines. Ten percent say that they have no interest in their destination other than the beaches and sunshine.

Those taking a staycation rather than a vacation, who are thinking about using the time to make some vital home improvements, and who are also looking to finance their home improvements, could consider a secured loan. A secured loan is one of many options to fund
home improvements and could be used to fund both large and smaller scale home improvements projects. Large scale projects which could be funded with a secured loan include extending property by means of a loft conversion or extension to the side of a property, whilst smaller scale projects might include refitting a kitchen, bathroom or even installing a fitted bedroom.
