Growing pains for dogs

Category: Home Improvements

With spring just around the corner, M&S Pet Insurance is urging green-fingered dog owners to carefully consider the plants, vegetables and fruit that they have in their gardens.

It would seem that several varieties, which are commonly grown in UK gardens, can pose a risk to household animals.  These reportedly include.

  • Daffodils: All parts of the Daffodil plant, which is also known as Narcissus Poeticus, are toxic and can be lethal to dogs.  Signs of Daffodil poisoning include staggering, vomiting and diarrhoea.
  • Tomato plants: The stem and plant of this fruit are toxic, as they contain an alkaloid that can cause serious gastrointestinal distress in dogs.
  • Rhubarb: The leaves are toxic and can cause dogs to experience abdominal pain, trembling and breathing difficulties.

Furthermore, M&S Pet Insurance points out that pear pips, onions, garlic, grapes and potato peelings are also potentially poisonous garden produce.

Homeowners who would like to turn an unruly garden into a safe and tranquil area in which to enjoy the forthcoming spring and summer months could consider taking out a secured loan to fund a landscaping project.  One of many finance options available, a secured loan for home improvements could be used to transform an overgrown, potentially hazardous garden into the ideal outdoor space.  Furthermore, borrowers may even decide to add a conservatory to their property in order to enjoy views across their new garden when the weather isn’t conducive to sitting outdoors.
