Don’t let thieves put a damper on your summer

With a hot summer predicted, MORE TH>N has offered householders some advice for protecting their outdoor belongings from opportunistic thieves.

Items in the average family garden can include expensive barbeques, heaters and garden furniture – potentially equating to a significant sum when totted up.

MORE TH>N has suggested a range of theft prevention tips:

  • Ensure that hedges do not become unwieldy as they could provide hiding places for thieves.
  • Consider installing external lighting, which should prove off-putting to would-be thieves.  High-efficiency, low-energy options are recommended.
  • Also consider putting up fences and gates, where necessary, to stop intruders from accessing the property’s quieter spots, such as the sides and rear.
  • Gravel driveways could be opted for as an additional deterrent, as they make quiet approaches very difficult and therefore unappealing.
  • In order to pose another challenge to prospective burglars, thorn bushes and prickly plants could be planted to act as tricky obstacles.
  • Ensure that garden sheds are locked.  This is particularly important if they contain items such as ladders and tools, which could assist an intruder in breaking and entering the main property.
  • Be aware of what is going on in the neighborhood and contact the police if somebody is acting suspiciously.

Homeowners that would like to take extra measures to protect their property from prospective burglars, and who are looking to finance the required work, could consider taking out a home improvement loan.  One of many finance options, a home improvement could allow the borrower to carry out a range of projects, from installing external lighting to putting up sturdy fences and gates.  In addition, the property owner may wish to use funds from a home improvement loan to replace any weak doors or windows, which may not be as strong as their modern-day counterparts.  Alarms and closed circuit television could also be invested in for extra peace of mind.
