Bonfire Night insurance claims

In the lead up to Bonfire Night, The Co-operative Insurance encouraged people to take the necessary measures which would prevent needless claims on the 5th November.

Every year, incidents including scoundrel fireworks and over powering bonfires are reported.

James Hillon, Head of Home Insurance at The Co-operative Insurance, explained: "We all love Bonfire Night and we are certainly not trying to pour cold water on anyone's enjoyment - we're just asking people to think of the safety of their homes, their cars and other people's property, as well as themselves, this year.

"Whether you're planning to just let a few fireworks off in your garden, or you're holding a lavish firework party, it's important that you check your insurance cover. Many families spend time making sure they're safe and warm before venturing out - but we also suggest that checking your household and car insurance should be part of your preparations for the big night."

Those who do chose to celebrate bonfire night at home are encouraged to think wisely about where they will be carrying out the fun. Neither should be close to a property, outbuilding, car, fence or hedge and a safe distance should be kept in order to stop things from getting out of hand.
James concluded: "We want people to enjoy themselves so our main advice would be to go to an organised event where you can safely enjoy the excitement of Bonfire Night. However, if you do decide to have firework fun at home, make sure you put your own safety and the safety of your and others property first."

Following the fun of Bonfire Night, homeowners who prefer to sit in and watch their neighbours' fireworks and who would like to make improvements to their property, could consider doing so with a secured loan for home improvements. Larger patio or French doors would provide a bigger view of the outside. A secured loan is one of many options to fund home improvements and could be used to renovate homes as well as making improvements to gardens, outbuildings and perimeter fences. A secured loan might also be a consideration for those homeowners looking to extend their property to create space for a growing family.
