According to a new study conducted by esure pet insurance, 18 percent of Britons have fallen out with their neighbours over their pets.
Moreover, 6 percent of these disputes have resulted in violence or aggression.
The survey revealed that dogs are at the heart of many arguments, with 37 percent of respondents reporting that barking has kept them awake at night. For 7 percent, this has proven so infuriating that they have reported it to the RSPCA or police. In addition to making a noise, 11 percent of dogs have been blamed for damaging plants, toys and garden possessions. Furthermore, dogs are to blame for scaring 12 percent of children, which prompted 6 percent of the homeowners surveyed to get in touch with the police regarding safety fears.
It would seem that dogs are not the sole perpetrators behind neighbourhood arguments however. The research uncovered that 10 percent of homeowners have had words with their neighbour as a result of repeated incidents of cats fouling in their garden. In response to this problem, 36 percent of respondents have utilised cat pepper in their garden, and 37 percent have thrown water at the pet in question. The delivery of ‘gifts’ in the form of dead animals also angers 12 percent of those surveyed, and one third of homeowners have even discovered their neighbour’s cat sleeping inside their house.
For 9 percent of homeowners, they are so exasperated with their neighbour’s pets that they are in the process of considering relocating. Indeed, if a house move was made by 37 percent, they would reportedly ensure that their new neighbours do not own any pets. Despite this, 11 percent of those questioned admitted that they would struggle to refuse to pet-sit for neighbours.

Homeowners who have recently moved into a new property, and are looking to put their personal stamp on it, could consider taking out a secured loan to fund the desired work. One of many finance options available, a secured loan for
home improvements could allow the borrower to commence an array of projects from re-decoration to fitting a new kitchen or bathroom. Where additional living space is sought, an extension, conservatory, or attic conversion could even be embarked upon. Additionally, a secured loan for home improvements could be used to fund work in outdoor areas such as landscaping to create the potentially perfect place for enjoying summer barbeques.
