Nemo Personal Finance raises £4,000 for the South Glamorgan Special Care Baby Association

Cardiff based Nemo Personal Finance has raised £4,000 for the South Glamorgan Special Care Baby Association, after adopting it as their charity of the year for 2009.

The South Glamorgan Special Care Baby Association was set up by staff and parents who had babies at the Neonatal Unit at UHW, part of Cardiff and Vale UHB.

Bernadette Hurley, Secretary: Special Care Infant Parent Support Group said “This is a tremendous amount of money gratefully received by the charity.

“As parents of poorly babies we often begin to depend on the staff and this facility allows us to build our confidence and to get to grips with any necessary medicines or medical equipment that will allow us to take our babies home safely. Many thanks to all at Nemo”.

Nemo Personal Finance employees voted the South Glamorgan Special Care Baby Association their charity of the year at the start of 2009.  Throughout 2009 fundraising days and events were held to raise money for the charity, which provides specialist care and treatment of premature and sick new born babies.

Funds raised by Nemo will be used specifically to refurbish the ‘rooming in’ room. This is a facility which enables mums and babies to spend time together before returning home, with the added comfort of nursing staff close by and on hand to help.

Ian Praed, Operations Director at Nemo Personal Finance, commented “As a Cardiff based company, Nemo and its employees are pleased to be supporting a local charity. The South Glamorgan Special Care Baby Association requires vital equipment which cannot be bought via the NHS, so rely on charitable donations.”

Mary Pickard, Sister at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, said “We’re grateful to receive support from businesses like Nemo. The charity benefits babies who arrive within the Neonatal Unit, their parents and siblings. Often, they live a long way from the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, and our unit gives them somewhere to sleep near their babies.  I would like to thank the staff at Nemo for choosing to support us throughout 2009.”
